SCHOOL HISTORY

Sekolah Menengah Teknik Melaka Tengah (Malacca Central Technical Secondary School) formerly known as Sekolah Menengah Vokasional Melaka Tengah ( Malacca Central Vocational Secondary School) began construcation in January 1984 on a 38 acre (15.46 hectares) site, financed by an Asian Development Bank I (ADB1) loan. This project cost RM32 million of which RM24 million was for the building and infrastructure and the rest went to equipping the school. It was completed in December 1985 and the first intake comprised of students who had registered to purse a vocational course on 20 April 1986.

Since its opening the school has seen many changes. In 1988 the Sijil Pelajaran Vokasional malaysia (SPVM) was replaced by the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia Vokasional(SPMV). This change has opened up an avenue for students of vocational schools to furthur their education. In thr same year, a skill-based certificate course was introduced to equip vocational students with necessary skills to meet the demands of the industrial sector.

On 1st. December 1995 this establishment went through yet another change, this time from Sekolah Menengah Vokasional to Sekolah Menengah Teknik, offering technical subjects but at the same maintainig a number of vocational courses. However the skill based certificate course is no longer offered to new students. These changes brought forth a new vibrant image to the technical secondary schools which prior to this did not receive much attention from the public..

Currently, Sekolah Menengah Teknik Melaka Tengah, consists of 800 students pursuing either technical or vocational courses. Besides achieving a good record in the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia Vocational Examination, the school is also actively involved in co-curricular activities at zone and state level. It has also had the opportunity to be involved in a number of competitions at national level.
